In
a research conducted at the sleep disorders research center of Kermanshah
University of Medical Sciences, it was concluded that sleep depravity disrupted
the physical and mental foundation of individuals and caused cardiovascular
problems, attention deficiency, memory loss and distraction at the workplace.
According
to the results of a research project entitled “meta-analysis of brain
functional changes induced by acute sleep deprivation”, which was carried out
by Dr. Habibollah Khazaei at the vice-chancellor for research and technology of
Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, the activity of some brain areas
changed after acute sleep deprivation. Since sleep is an important requirement
for life, brain-imaging assessments in this study suggested a variety of
structural and functional changes in brain areas following sleep deprivation. It
is notable the results of studies in this field have been diverse and often
contradictory due to small sample size and lack of homogeneity of research
groups (due to differences in diagnostic criteria, age, different imaging
methods, image pre-processing and analysis).
